Sweet Home, Oregon, is home to about 9,000 citizens. Residents of this Linn County community in the northwestern part of the state enjoy lakes and rivers across the valley. The Cascades are less than an hour away.


The earliest residents of European descent arrived in the area in the early 1850s. Sweet Home represents the eventual merging of two communities. Mossville was an early settlement with a general store and a post office. Just to the west, Buckhead grew near the mouth of Ames Creek on the South Santiam River. The communities became one in 1874, and Sweet Home was incorporated in 1893. In the 20th century, the timber industry stimulated growth in the area. In the 1960s, both the Green Peter Dam and the Foster Dam changed the landscape though the creation of desired reservoirs.

Parks and Recreation

Sweet Home OR real estate owners enjoy a veritable recreational bonanza in and around their community. Fly fishermen head out to the South Santiam River to pursue both steelhead and salmon. Some stretches of water in the area are desirable for whitewater rafting. Gold panning along Quartzville Creek is a favorite pastime of still others that own Sweet Home real estate. Attractions and Activities

This is covered bridge territory, and there are three in and around Sweet Home. You'll find the Weddle Covered Bridge at Sankey Park. The Crawfordsville Covered Bridge crosses the Calapooia River about eight miles southwest of town. Finally, the Short Covered Bridge spans the South Santiam River about 15 minutes to the east.

Golfers that have invested in Sweet OR real estate will find Mallard Creek Golf Club, an 18-hole championship layout, less than 15 minutes to the northwest of town. This par-72 course stretches to as long as 6,938 yards. Tall grasses, water hazards and rolling terrain all contribute to this scenic and challenging test of golf.


The three-day-long Oregon Jamboree is a live music extravaganza featuring some of the biggest names in country music. Twenty-two different acts fill two stages during the course of the early August event. The Sweet Home Arts and Crafts Festival is held at the high school during the same weekend.
