Halsey, Oregon

Halsey OR Real Estate, Halsey area and Community Information

Halsey, Oregon, is a community of about 1,000 individuals located in the mid-Willamette Valley. The Linn County community is in the northwest part of the state, not far from population centers like Corvallis to the north and Eugene to the south. Halsey is also directly south of the county seat of Albany. The community's climate has proven perfect for the production of grass seed, and it is now a world leader in grass seed production. Commercial nurseries and wineries also thrive in the area.

Halsey was first settled in 1872, and the city was incorporated in 1876. It is named after a vice-president of the Oregon and California Railroad, William L. Halsey. Area wheat farmers got a boost when the railroad came through town, allowing easy shipping of their crop to lucrative urban markets. Much of downtown Halsey was burned in 1903 when a fire broke out at the J. L. Creamery.
